This is the first step to understand the needs of your body in its current state. This includes measuring and testing your posture, mobility, stability, core activation and strength. I use this to develop your custom exercise program that will help you to move pain-free, prevent injury, improve posture and efficiently generate strength + power. The assessment goes like this: During your posture assessment, we'll go through series of evaluations measuring different length/tension relationships. This includes measuring your spinal curvature, forward head posture, pelvic tilt, plumb line symmetry and passive flexibility of individual muscles. We'll then go through a functional movement screen to access your stability, active mobility and core strength. If appropriate, we'll finish by lifting weights in some primary movement patterns to see your current strength and movement ability. If body composition change is a goal of yours, we can also do a body measurement if you wish. These assessments are important because muscle imbalances can throw off your posture and posture is where movement begins and ends. If you're not starting in the right place, you won't be ending in the right place. Functional movement also depends on your body's ability to translate commands into actions and access the necessary mobility, stability and coordination. Without screening for this information, we run the risk of injury and/or developing compensation patterns. "If you're not assessing, you're guessing."
